Asheville Friends -

I’ve been hearing from a lot of homeowners this week about the new Buncombe County property tax assessments, and in many cases people are seeing large jumps in assessed value — sometimes close to 50%.

Last week, I attended a presentation from one of the county property assessors, which gave some helpful insight into how these values were calculated and what options homeowners have if the assessment doesn’t seem accurate.

One important thing to know: you do have the right to appeal your assessment if you believe the value is incorrect.

I’ll also be participating in an upcoming appeals clinic where homeowners can ask questions and get guidance on the process. If you’d like information on the date, time, or how to prepare, feel free to send me a message — I’m happy to share what I learned and help point you in the right direction.
