5 things happening around Athens this July 👇
First, Athens Restaurant Week runs July 13th through 19th, with restaurants, breweries, coffee shops, and dessert spots all over town offering special menus and deals. It’s one of the best weeks of the year to try somewhere new in Athens.
Second, the Sunflower Concert Series is back at the State Botanical Garden. Every Tuesday evening through September, people bring chairs, blankets, and picnic dinners for live music surrounded by the gardens.
Third, Peter Buck of R.E.M. is playing an intimate show at the Rialto Club inside Hotel Indigo on July 9th. R.E.M. started right here in Athens, and the fact that artists like that still come back to play small rooms here says a lot about this town.
And fourth, Mayor Girtz’s 2026 State of the Community Address included a major growth note: UGA plans to add around 600 students per year. That matters for housing, traffic, infrastructure, and redevelopment — especially for anyone thinking about moving to Athens or investing here.
Athens has a lot going on this summer — and these are a few stories worth keeping an eye on.
