Congratulations to the GPLS PINNACLE Graduates who completed a year-long library leadership program facilitated by the UGA Carl Vinson Institute of Government.

PINNACLE, Public Library Institute for New and Creative Leadership Education, is a professional leadership development program designed to develop the knowledge, skills, and ability of librarians from across Georgia and prepare them to move into positions of leadership in their organizations and allow those already in these positions to improve their practice.

October is Dyslexia Awareness Month. Did you know audiobooks support patrons with reading disabilities? For example, they enable those with dyslexia to focus on what is being said rather than trying to decipher the letters and words written on a page.

Georgia Library Service for the Blind and Print Disabled provides audiobooks and reading materials in accessible formats for those who are unable to read standard print due to a visual, physical, or reading disability.

Did you know Andrew Carnegie donated more than $40 million to build 1,679 U.S. library buildings? 30 Carnegie libraries were built in Georgia!

Many have significant original features remaining and have been restored. These distinctive buildings play an important role in this country’s cultural heritage.

Georgia Public Library Service was pleased to join Georgia Reads at the Cu***ng Library to celebrate Georgia Reads Day and Georgia Reads Week, celebrating literacy statewide.

Forsyth County Public Library was honored as the winner of the Georgia Reads America 250 Reading Challenge.

Joining the celebration were children’s author and Super Bowl champion Malcolm Mitchell, the Georgia Municipal Association, Professional Association of Georgia Educators, and the Sandra Dunagan Deal Center for Early Language and Literacy.

Malcolm Mitchell hosted a storytime reading of his latest book, “Hey, Georgia”, part of the Georgia Reads for America250 book list, and signed books for students from Cu***ng Elementary.
