Love learning interesting snips of Austin history 🫶! So many fond memories at Bull Creek🖤

Ever wonder why Bull Creek is called "Bull" Creek? Interesting story: It's said that the last big bull bison in Travis County was killed by either son Dick or father Will Preece, ex-Texas Rangers. They were among the first Anglo land owners in the area. Prior to this, Bull Creek was known as Cascade Creek because of the sequential gurgling waterfalls along its 12 mile length. On the edge of the Texas/Comanche frontier, Cascade Creek was the site of a limited Civil War skirmish as well. The Preeces rebelled against Confederate recruiters. They formed a Union stronghold in the hills and caves around Cascade Creek and fought off Confederate calvary conscription in 1861. Later, the newly renamed Bull Creek was a known wagon trail and wagon wheel ruts are still visible in the limestone creek bed to this day. We know that a number of Indigenous people lived and migrated through this area for thousands of years prior to the Mexican Empresarios and Spanish Colonials.
