BEACH FILL UPDATE: EQUIPMENT BEING MOBILIZED TO THE BEACH, ONE BEACH PATH CLOSED FOR SAFETY UNTIL TUESDAY

Avalon’s 20th Street beach path will be temporarily closed to the public through Tuesday, September 1st in the interest of public safety. Norfolk Dredging must transport some equipment and pipe to the Avalon beach for the upcoming beach fill that will begin on or about September 5th. The 20th Street beach access will be used to bring the heavy equipment onto the beach and temporarily tuck it against the dune before transport to the 9th Street beach staging area. The 20th Street beach remains open on the waterward side of the dune. Beach goers who typically access the 20th Street path will be directed to beach paths to the immediate north and south of 20th Street. Signs will be posted. In the event a beachgoer has a disability and needs assistance with the use of a beach wheelchair on this or any other beach, please contact the Avalon Beach Patrol at (609) 967-7587, thank you. This project will result in 941,000 cubic yards of new sand being placed between the 9th Street and 25th Street beaches as a storm protection initiative. Dunes will be reconstructed along with crossovers, fencing, and dune grass planting, 100% financed by the federal government.

Parents, we ask you to be mindful of your children to ensure they do not use the 20th Street beach path nor approach any of the equipment stored on the beach. All beaches in Avalon remain open during this project except for 1,000 feet in the immediate area where the sand is being placed on the beach.
