🚧 Duke Street Streetscape Project Gets Underway 🚧

Work is officially underway on the Duke Street Streetscape Project, with initial preparations now complete.

As construction moves forward, the intersection of Duke Street and Hamar Street will be closed beginning Monday morning, September 28, through Friday, October 2, 2026. Detour signage will be installed Monday morning to help guide motorists around the closure.

Duke Street residents have been notified of the upcoming closure, along with first responders and the staff at Beaufort Elementary School.

Construction will begin at Hamar Street and proceed toward Bladen Street.

The City appreciates the community’s patience as this project gets underway. Anyone with questions or in need of additional information may contact 843-592-2673.

County Council Invites Volunteers to Serve on Animal Services Ad Hoc Committee.

The committee will evaluate issues affecting animal services in both counties and develop recommendations for consideration by the Beaufort and Jasper County Councils. Its responsibilities will include:

- Work to align the animal control ordinances of Beaufort and Jasper counties
- Evaluate shared or joint animal shelter services and developing recommendations for each option considered
- Identify capital and infrastructure needs necessary to support the committee’s recommended outcomes
- Present other tasks/outcomes inspired by the Ad Hoc committee work.
