⛈️ OHIO HOMEOWNERS — BEFORE YOU CLEAN UP THAT STORM DAMAGE, READ THIS.
After several days of severe storms, high winds, heavy rain, and a derecho rolling through Ohio, a lot of homeowners are waking up to fallen trees, damaged roofs, broken fences, water intrusion, and other property damage.
Here are a few things you should do before you start cleaning everything up:
📸 1. Take LOTS of pictures.
Document the damage from multiple angles. Take photos and videos before removing anything, if it’s safe to do so.
🏠 2. Check your roof, gutters, siding & windows.
Storm damage isn’t always obvious from the ground. Look for missing shingles, dents, cracks, broken screens, and damaged gutters.
🌳 3. Document fallen trees and damaged landscaping.
Take pictures before anything is removed. If a tree has taken out a fence, roof, vehicle, etc., document the damage to everything involved.
💧 4. Watch for water damage.
Heavy rain and wind can create leaks that aren’t immediately noticeable. Check ceilings, walls, attics, basements, and around windows.
📞 5. Call your insurance company if you believe you have damage.
Coverage depends on your individual policy, so don’t assume something is or isn’t covered. Your insurance company can explain your specific coverage and deductible.
⚠️ And please don’t put yourself in danger trying to inspect anything. Stay away from downed power lines and unstable trees and let the professionals handle dangerous situations.
