CITY OF CALHOUN IDENTIFIES PROPERTY FOR POSSIBLE DATA CENTER: The Gordon Gazette has received confirmation from the City of Calhoun there is a parcel of land that could be a possible location for a data center on Hwy 53 Spur within the city limits, between Brookstone Subdivision and Fair's Auto. That land is currently being cleared and has a driveway going in.

****THIS PROPERTY IS LOCATED WITHIN THE CITY LIMITS OF CALHOUN AND NEITHER GORDON COUNTY NOR THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS, WHO HAVE A MORATORIUM IN PLACE ON DATA CENTERS IN (UNINCORPORATED) GORDON COUNTY AT THIS TIME, HAVE NO AUTHORITY ON ANY BUILDING OF A DATA CENTER WITHIN THE CITY LIMITS OF CALHOUN.***

Late last week, the Gazette asked for information about 57.27 acres of land at 1401 Hwy. 53 Spur in Calhoun after hearing talk about the possibility of a data center coming to the area and negotiations of energy rates between the City and North Georgia EMC and that there was the possibility of a will-serve letter from the City to NGEMC.

This morning, the Gazette received a response from the City in the form of a letter from City of Calhoun Building Official Joey Moore, stating "In reference to (the property),it is zoned IND-G (Industrial General) in the City of Calhoun. The property is regulated by Section 7.11 of the City of Calhoun zoning ordinance. The proposed use of the property to construct a data processing center would be a legal conforming use for the zoning district."
