How’s the ride on the Fire Horse going so far for you this year? I know many folks who are experiencing so much sadness & sunshine. They are not mutually exclusive.

With our recent loss of another fur baby, I recognize the need to slow down & nurture myself. If the fire horse wants to keep running, then fine. I’ll sit back & try to relax into the ride. It’s not fun when you feel like you’re holding on for dear life! With a different perspective, it can be exhilarating & liberating.- https://mailchi.mp/a078a2ad7ace/giant-support-8571481

My role as a professional organizer & appraiser have put me in intimate contact with individual and collective tendancies towards excess. On a spectrum from busy families and downsizing seniors to collecting and hoarding, I've seen more than my fair share of accumulated stuff.

From this perspective, I continue to ask questions about the human nature of collecting. In this post, I attempt to forget my/ your/ our understanding of collecting in historical contexts, both cultural and personal.

Read the full post, written full by me (link in profile)! I unpack the psychology and privilege of collecting (the desire to acquire), in context with thoughtful collecting and living a more minimalist life.

Wipe off that pollen & dust off Winter. With the unfurling of spring, the change of seasons remind us that each year, life begins again. I am so thrilled that spring has finally arrived. Over the past two weeks, I've paused and practiced noticing how the world unfurls and greens.

Frequently, blooms precede greens. The metaphor isn't lost on me. Spring energy is such a force! We feel propelled into the year, rather than just slumbering away.

I recently began cataloging an incredible fine-craft collection (40 years of dedication). I feel honored to be doing this work and passionate about protecting collections that will be passed from generation to generation over the next few decades.

The baby boomer generation has been incredibly influential in supporting artists and craftspeople. Sadly, younger generations do not have the same financial means to carry this tradition on in the same way.

This topic has me thinking and sparking discussions across industries to learn more about how I and others can actively preserve these collections, or at least honor them in significant ways.

Have you given this any thought? Do you game ideas to share or questions on this topic? If so please reach out & let's talk more about it.

Nothing seems quite so resilient as the return of spring blooms after the bleak, cold & dark days of winter. In this newsletter, I share some of what is fortifying me as we transition from winter to spring this week. Read how I'm adjusting expectations, honoring boundaries, & extending compassion as part of my daily practice. - https://mailchi.mp/aa891db06380/giant-support-8571013

In my latest post, I address questions & concerns of the value of objects.

What's it worth? This is a frequently asked question posed to me as both an organizer & appraiser.

There's no simple answer. Values are formed through a complex range of factors that influence markets. Values are tiered, and change based on the market used to locate comparables.

The reason we have so many markets and tiers is that we have created so much stuff! Ok, this is an oversimplification. I digress…

But we can look at our questions about value as an opportunity to do research and find the best fit for resale of our items.

The focus of this post is to help you understand the factors that drive value, economically, socially, and emotionally. Find the link in my profile to read the full post and conclusion.

Armed with these factors, each of us can come to a more realistic understanding of the value of our things, and why.

I've been reflecting on my word for 2025, courage. Courage is a value and living our values takes practice.

Practice has been on my mind for about a month, ever since a young lady shouted out. Practice makes progress during a community discussion. I felt so encouraged and inspired to hear that thus is the message she learned from one of her teachers.

As I've danced with discovering my word for twenty twenty six, practis was at the top of my list of possibilities. Read my latest post to explore more about discovering your word of the year. And what practice means for me.
