I just wanted to take a moment to explain the Airbnb rating scales for our guests and anyone who uses Airbnb. The rating scale is an important part of every host's success or lack there of when it comes to running a rental. It is also very confusing and doesn't quite match what most think it does.
Airbnb breaks the scale down into 1-5 stars.
1 - ban these hosts for life
2 - their listing should be removed
3 - there are major problems with the listing
4 - there are several issues that need to be corrected
5 - nobody is perfect, but I enjoyed by stay here
The 4 star rating and the 5 star rating is what's very confusing for guests and hosts. In general, you would think a 4-star rating is great. Unfortunately, a 4-star rating is not considered good at all with Airbnb. Not only does it reflect poorly on a listing, but a 4-star tanks a host's overall rating and the law of averages doesn't necessarily add up correctly either.
Now, as a host, if a guest feels we truly earned a 4-star we will make the appropriate adjustments and improve in anyway we can. We do ask that guests reach out immediately when they have an issue so we can ensure an excellent stay, but we also realize some people don't feel comfortable doing so.
I guess my whole point is to just bring an awareness to guests or Airbnb users so they understand just how important an accurate rating is to hosts. Basically, 5-stars is a pass and 4-stars is a fail. Silly, I know, but it is the reality of the business.
We thank and appreciate every single one of our guests and are always looking for ways to improve the services we offer. Feedback is always appreciated and valued.
