Chicago’s temperatures are dropping fast, so we are sharing a few simple steps that can make all the difference in preventing frozen pipes, heat outages, and costly winter damage. It doesn’t matter whether you own or rent; these actions will help protect your home.

Winter Freeze Prevention Tips:
• Keep your home heated at 65°F or higher at all times.
• Open kitchen and bathroom cabinet doors to warm exposed plumbing.
• Keep interior doors open to improve airflow and reduce cold spots.
• When temps fall below 10°F, let faucets drip lightly, especially on exterior walls.
• Lock windows to minimize drafts and heat loss.
• Report any ice buildup on walkways, steps, or sidewalks ASAP.
• Allow time for snow removal crews to reach your property during active storms.
• If you suspect a frozen pipe, contact management immediately; do not attempt to thaw it yourself.
