New data from the National Association of REALTORS® shows that pending home sales dropped 7.3% nationwide in September 2026, while the Midwest saw a 6.5% decline.

With fewer buyers signing contracts, those still actively searching may have more opportunities to negotiate.

And that does not always mean getting a lower purchase price.

Depending on the property, buyers could find opportunities to negotiate:
