U.S. News reviewed more than 27,000 public high schools and ranked nearly 18,000 for its 2026-27 list. Schools were scored on six factors: college readiness, which carried the most weight at 30%; state assessment proficiency and performance, at 20% each; and underserved student performance, college curriculum breadth and graduation rate, at 10% each.
These are Bergen County's top 10 high schools, according to the new U.S. News rankings:
10. River Dell Regional High School, Oradell: The River Dell Regional School District school ranked No. 55 in New Jersey and No. 980 nationally. It has a 97% graduation rate, a college readiness score of 52.6 and 1,025 students.

9. Northern Valley Regional High School at Old Tappan, Old Tappan: The Northern Valley Regional High School District school ranked No. 47 in New Jersey and No. 783 nationally. It has a 99% graduation rate, a college readiness score of 60.1 and 1,086 students.

8. Ramsey High School, Ramsey: The Ramsey School District school ranked No. 45 in New Jersey and No. 760 nationally. It has a 97% graduation rate, a college readiness score of 61.0 and 739 students.

7. Ridgewood High School, Ridgewood: The Ridgewood Public School District school ranked No. 43 in New Jersey and No. 721 nationally. It has a 98% graduation rate, a college readiness score of 63.7 and 1,740 students.

6. Glen Rock High School, Glen Rock: The Glen Rock Public School District school ranked No. 39 in New Jersey and No. 644 nationally. It has a 98% graduation rate, a college readiness score of 62.6 and 722 students.

5. Northern Highlands Regional High School, Allendale: The Northern Highlands Regional High School District school ranked No. 35 in New Jersey and No. 575 nationally. It has a 99% graduation rate, a college readiness score of 63.6 and 1,257 students.

4. Tenafly High School, Tenafly: The Tenafly Public School District school ranked No. 23 in New Jersey and No. 389 nationally. It has a 99% graduation rate, a college readiness score of 70.3 and 1,141 students.

3. Northern Valley Regional High School at Demarest, Demarest: The Northern Valley Regional High School District school ranked No. 18 in New Jersey and No. 346 nationally. It has a 98% graduation rate, a college readiness score of 73.1 and 1,038 students.

2. Bergen County Technical High School - Teterboro, Teterboro: The Bergen County Vocational Technical School District school ranked No. 8 in New Jersey and No. 84 nationally. It has a 99% graduation rate, a college readiness score of 96.5 and 665 students.

1. Bergen County Academies, Hackensack: The Bergen County Vocational Technical School District school was Bergen County's highest-ranked high school, coming in at No. 6 in New Jersey and No. 78 nationally. It has a 99% graduation rate, a college readiness score of 97.4 and 1,130 students.
The rankings rely on third-party data. AP and IB information comes from the College Board and International Baccalaureate, assessment and graduation data comes from individual states, and other data comes from the U.S. Department of Education, U.S. News said.
