CONSIDER FREEZING YOUR CREDIT
A credit freeze can make it more difficult for someone to open a new account using your identity.
Placing or lifting a freeze is free and does not lower your credit score. To receive full protection, you must place the freeze separately with Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion.
When you legitimately need someone to review your credit, such as when applying for a mortgage, vehicle loan, or credit card, you can temporarily lift the freeze and restore it afterward.
Be sure to use the official website for each credit bureau, and keep your login and recovery information in a secure place.
A credit freeze does not prevent fraudulent charges on accounts you already have, so you should continue reviewing your statements and transaction alerts.
Protecting your credit is important every day, but especially when you are preparing to purchase or refinance a home.
