An invitation to step outside. For The Raleigh, we pulled inspiration from southern colonial design by incorporating classic symmetry and stately porch lines that draw your eye toward the landscape. True custom building is about honoring the past while perfectly accommodating the present. For this 3,800+ square foot custom home, the goal was to weave the classic shingle-style architecture into the fabric of its deeply historic neighborhood.

The secret to a great open floor plan? Balance.

While we love open-concept living for the endless natural light and the way it keeps everyone connected, large spaces can easily feel cold or echoey if they aren’t designed intentionally. To bring this main level to life, we focused on zoning using architectural cues and warm, natural materials to clearly define the kitchen, dining, and living areas without putting up a single wall.

Design Tip: When going open-concept, use material transitions and furniture placement to give each “room” its own distinct purpose while maintaining the flow.

We kept the aesthetic modern and crisp, pairing clean lines with a sleek, full-wall tile backsplash that beautifully catches the lake light. Every busy household needs a landing zone, but a custom home designed for both immediate and extended family requires the best of the best organization. We built this spacious utility room to handle the heavy lifting without sacrificing an ounce of style. Instead of traditional open clutter, we designed aesthetic storage cubbies that utilize a mix of hooks, curated baskets, and pantry-style cabinets to keep everything hidden but accessible.
