💚Monday Motivation: Stay in Your Zone💚

I recently read something about Oprah Winfrey that stuck with me. When asked the secret to her success, she said, “I stayed in my zone.”

She found what she was good at and kept doing it. She didn’t spend her life chasing every rabbit that ran by.

That made me ask myself: What is my zone?

My career path certainly hasn’t looked like one straight line.

About 35 years ago, I started as a teller at a credit union at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base. Since then, I’ve worked for an international manufacturing company, taught Japanese ladies English using the Bible, managed a doctor’s office in Washington, managed the only American financial institution in Spain, and coordinated fundraising for nonprofits across 30 Alabama counties.

And then came real estate.

Eventually, I earned my broker’s license, opened Wiregrass Home Team, and stepped into a whole new adventure of owning and leading a business.

At first glance, that sounds like I’ve been ALL OVER the place. 😂

But when I look back, I can see the thread running through almost all of it:

Business. Training. Ministry.

That’s my zone.

The job titles changed. The countries changed. The circumstances changed. But the things God equipped me to do kept showing up.

Maybe staying in your zone doesn’t mean you have to do the same thing your entire life. Maybe it means understanding your God-given gifts well enough to recognize where you are most useful — and then continuing to develop those gifts wherever God places you.

I’ve chased a few rabbits over the years. I’ve gotten distracted by opportunities that looked good but weren’t necessarily good for me. And usually those detours cost me time, money, energy, or all three.

There will ALWAYS be another rabbit.

Another opportunity.
Another idea.
Another person doing something that makes you wonder if you should be doing it too.

But everything you can do isn’t necessarily something you’re called to do.

“Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.” — 1 Peter 4:10

Know your gifts. Develop them. Use them to serve others. And don’t get so busy watching everybody else’s race that you wander out of your own lane.

This week, ask yourself:

What is my zone?
Where has God consistently used me?
And am I growing there…or am I chasing rabbits?

Stay focused. Keep learning. Keep growing. Keep serving.

And stay in your zone. ❤️

The Gathering — My Biggest Takeaways

I came home from The Gathering with pages of notes and lots of ideas, but when I boiled it all down, these are the things I really want to remember—and share with our team:

* Don’t win the wrong game.
More money, sales, recognition or growth isn’t success if it costs our faith, family, health or relationships. God isn’t simply #1 on our priority list—He should be at the center of all of it.

* Use a Kingdom Scorecard. We count transactions, volume, listings and commissions. But God doesn’t count things—He weighs them. Instead of comparing ourselves to other agents, ask: Did I serve well? Was I obedient? Did I use what God gave me?

* Mind the drift. We usually don’t get off course through one huge decision, but through lots of little ones without checking our direction. What’s become optional in my life that God intended to be permanent?

* If I can, I must. God gives us ideas, opportunities and abilities, but we still have to act. He can open the door without making us walk through it. Consistency before creativity. Action over excuses.

* Relationships ARE our business. We probably already know enough people to grow our businesses—we need to serve those people better. Listen. Follow up. Stay connected. Add value. We get by giving.

* Use systems and AI to create MORE human connection, not less. Automate tasks—not relationships. Let the CRM remember so the agent can care.

* Know and show your value.
Don’t just tell sellers what you’ll do—show them. Our listings are our résumé. Our service, presentation, follow-up and client experience should clearly demonstrate why someone should choose us.

And maybe my biggest question coming home wasn’t, “How can we sell more real estate?”

It was:

“God, are You pleased with what I’m doing?”

If we keep Him at the center, serve people well, use what we’ve been given and stay faithful to our purpose, I believe the business will take care of itself. 💚
