🏊🏽♂️💙 Diversity in Aquatics – HBCU Celebration Swim Meet at Morehouse College! 💙🏊🏽♀️
December 11–13 • Archer Hall • Morehouse College
This week, Diversity in Aquatics is hosting the HBCU Celebration Swim Meet, an inspiring event bringing awareness back to a powerful legacy in Black aquatic sports.
In the 1980s, more than 20 HBCUs had competitive swim teams or aquatics programs. Today, only ONE remains — Howard University’s Division I program.
This decline came from decades of underinvestment, facility closures, and barriers that kept many communities from accessing swim programs.
Diversity in Aquatics is working to change that — rebuilding the pipeline from learn-to-swim to collegiate competition, restoring aquatics at HBCUs, expanding representation, and partnering with USA Swimming to help revive sustainable swim programs rooted in HBCU legacy.
💧 This event is more than a meet — it’s a movement.
A movement to bring visibility, access, and opportunity back to our schools and our youth.
