🐾🧡 Hoy recordamos a nuestras mascotas — Today we remember our beloved pets 🧡🐾
In many Mexican traditions, October 27 is the day set aside to welcome back the spirits of the animals who loved us, the first night of the Día de los Mu***os season.
What is Día de los Mu***os? It's not a day of sadness, but a celebration of love that doesn't end. From late October through November 2, families build ofrendas (altars) to welcome the souls of those who've passed, honoring them with the things they loved most.
And our pets? In Aztec belief, the Xoloitzcuintli, the ancient Mexican hairless dog, guided souls on their journey through Mictlán, the land of the dead. Our pets walked beside us in life, and tradition says they help light the way home for us too. 🐕✨
What's on the ofrenda, and why:�🌼 Cempasúchil (marigolds) – Their bright color and scent create a path to guide spirits home�🕯️ Velas (candles) – Light the way through the darkness�💧 Water – Refreshes them after their long journey (a full water bowl for our furry ones!)�🦴 Favorite treats & food – A welcome-home feast�
🧸 Their toy, collar, or leash – So they know they're remembered�📸 Photos – The heart of the altar, keeping their memory present�🎉 Papel picado – The delicate paper banners represent the fragility and beauty of life�🧂 Salt – Purifies and protects the soul
Tonight, light a candle for the paws that once followed you everywhere, the noses that greeted you at the door, and the hearts that loved you without condition. They are never truly gone. 💛
