Good news on your next property tax bill. 🏡

Denton County adopted its Fiscal Year 2026-2027 budget this week, landing its lowest tax rate since 1986 at $0.183394 per $100 of taxable value. The county makes up only about 10% of your total property tax bill, so this is one piece of the puzzle, but it's a welcome one as costs keep climbing. The $495.1 million budget also prioritizes public safety, the courts, and road maintenance, all while the county grows by roughly 90 residents a day. The new rate takes effect Oct. 1.

A homegrown Denton boot brand just leveled up.

Lukas Western Wear celebrated its grand opening at Denton's Golden Triangle Mall, moving into a 1,200 square foot space in the former Francesca's spot off I-35. Expect brand-name boots, hats, and Western apparel, plus access to lines like Rock'em's women's boots now that Lukas has joined the Rock'em family.

The best part is the backstory. Owners Airam Sandoval and her husband built the brand through TikTok live selling and pop-up booths at the North Texas State Fair and Rodeo before landing their own storefront, and they named the shop after their son, who they say gave them a reason to dream bigger than themselves.

Denton gamers, your new hangout just leveled up. 🎮

Overworld Collectibles has opened near the Denton Square, offering retro video games, trading cards and memorabilia, and it buys, sells and trades too. It's still in its soft opening (as of Sept. 12) with a grand opening expected in mid October, but the shop is already hosting weekly Super Smash Bros. meetups and plans daily events. Open Thursday through Saturday noon to 10 p.m. and Sunday noon to 8 p.m.

One of the country's most popular b**r and food destinations is heading to Grandscape.

Yard House is coming to The Colony next spring, taking over the former Rock and Brews space at Grandscape, the rock themed restaurant that KISS legends Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley helped found, which closed last year. Known as the modern American gathering place, Yard House pours more than 100 b**rs on draft and serves a globally inspired menu with California roots, from poke nachos and sushi stacks to burgers, steaks, and seafood.

According to the permit, the roughly 4 million dollar project converts the existing 10,900 square foot restaurant, with an interior overhaul built around Yard House's signature center island bar and its glass enclosed keg room. Completion is slated for spring 2027.

Another sign of just how fast McKinney is growing. 🏨

The 137 room, European inspired AC Hotel McKinney is set to open in mid November in the Hub 121 development at Craig Ranch, with reservations opening Nov. 15. Expect eight suites, an outdoor pool, a fitness center, and nearly 3,000 square feet of event space, plus three dining spots: AC Kitchen, the AC Lounge for cocktails and tapas, and a fifth floor Good & Proper Wood Fired Bistro serving American food with Texas influences.

The Purrrfect Lounge, a luxury cat boarding business, soft opened Sept. 1 in McKinney on Virginia Parkway. The veteran owned and woman owned spot gives cats their own private, climate controlled rooms, daily wellness checks, and plenty of toys and climbing spaces. Boarding starts around $50 a day, and the grand opening celebration is set for Oct. 10.

Flower Mound, your sweet tooth is about to be very happy.

Rita's Italian Ice and Frozen Custard is making a comeback, moving into the former Salad and Go space at The Pines of Flower Mound on Flower Mound Road, right across from Fiori Italian Bar and Restaurant. This time it comes with a drive-through, and it brings Rita's right back to the same shopping center where it first opened in 2009.

Founded in Philadelphia in 1984, Rita's is famous for its Italian ice made fresh daily, with a rotating lineup of more than 95 flavors, plus frozen custard and gelati. An opening date has not been announced yet, so keep your eyes peeled.
