Are they going to close Lloyd Estates Elementary? ๐ซ
Thatโs the question a lot of parents and community members are asking right now.
It was a pleasure providing refreshments and food this morning to help support the first SAC meeting of the new school year, and thank you to Lloyd Estates for inviting me once again to be part of the conversation as a local community member and Realtor.
There was a great turnout, with parents, teachers, staff, School Board members, City Commissioners, the Vice Mayor of Oakland Park, and community members, all coming together to understand whatโs happening and ask, what can we do?
There are so many factors affecting enrollment, families relocating, immigration, the cost of living, charter schools, private schools, and changes happening across South Florida and the country.
But Lloyd Estates has made incredible academic progress, going from a C to an A, and weโre hearing the school is only 10 students short of its enrollment goal.
As a Realtor, I also have to ask, what happens to the surrounding neighborhood and home values when an A rated school closes? And what happens to this campus?
These are important questions that deserve to be part of the conversation before a final decision is made.
The School Board member who joined us today listened to the community and has expressed her support for keeping Lloyd Estates open. But this is bigger than one person. We need to keep showing up, asking questions, and looking for solutions.
September 22 at 9 AM, the School Board will hold a workshop at the Kathleen C. Wright Administration Center.
