This is a reminder that our meeting is tomorrow May 26th at 6:30 PM at 1201 W Empire. This month we will be having Gretchen Rackow from Bussian Insurance to talk over insurance for rentals and how to nicely remind tenants of the need or requirement of renters insurance. This month we will be having Gerturde Heimerdinger the Community Development Director for Freeport with us. She was provided with the questions that we had come up with last meeting. It has been brought to my attention that a the Summary of safer homes has been updated a few times since it was originally publicized. Please make sure that you are checking their website and are using the current version.

Effective January 1, 2026, the Summary of Rights for Safer Homes Act requires landlords (owners of the building or someone working for them to rent residences) provide a summary of rights to all Illinois housing tenants as the first page of their written lease, whether the lease is new or a renewal

Unfortunately due to lack of involvement in the leadership end of the group our January meeting has been cancelled due to conflict in scheduling! Additionally the February meeting will be the 3rd Tuesday instead of the 4th so next meeting is February 17th. If anyone from the group would like to step into a leadership role please let us know

Welcome to the new Community and Economic Development Director of Freeport.

NEW DIRECTOR OF COMMUNITY & ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT:
The City of Freeport welcomes Gertrude Heimerdinger as its new Community & Economic Development Director! Heimerdinger spent six years at a Dubuque architectural engineering firm before joining the City. Originally from Pearl City, she graduated with a Bachelor's of Science in Architectural Science from the University of Illinois and a Master of Architecture from Lawrence Tech University. She is excited to work with the community, specifically utilizing her background in City planning initiatives and community building. Welcome Gertrude!

Reminder our October meetings is the 28th at 6:30 at 1201 W Empire. We will be having Andrea Schultz Winter from the Greater Freeport Partnership there to discuss the enterprise zone area and how it can be utilized for residential improvements if you fall within the zone.
