Monday Scaries got you down? 😬

Well, take a look at these Monday Scaries from our framing crew!

Renovating your home can be exciting — but once you start opening up walls and ceilings, you never know what surprises might be hiding inside.

📸 Here’s a peek at one of our current renovation projects:
1️⃣ The first photo shows a small cut of wood supporting the entire second floor (circled in red) along with a cracked floor joist (circled in blue).
2️⃣ The second photo shows how much of that same piece of wood is actually sitting on the exterior wall… less than two inches!
3️⃣ The third photo reveals an LVL beam supporting the roof that’s sitting on shims.
4️⃣ The fourth photo shows another LVL beam meant to be 12” tall (per manufacturer specs) — but it was modified to a smaller dimension, reducing its load-bearing strength.

💡 Lesson of the day: Hiring the cheapest contractor isn’t always the best option. Just because someone can “make it fit” doesn’t mean it’s structurally sound.

Visit your jobsite often and don’t hesitate to ask questions — your contractor should be happy to explain the reasoning behind every structural decision.

✅ Always make sure your contractor is properly licensed and insured. You can verify licenses directly through the MHIC website.
