WARM (Wrapping Arms 'Round Many)

WARM is in need of another host church!

Our wonderful host churches have filled our upcoming winter season schedule from November through March, except for ONE week – the week of November 22-29.

Since 2009, WARM has partnered with churches throughout St. Mary’s County to provide overnight shelter to homeless adults during the cold winter months.

We know Nov. 22-29 is Thanksgiving week and it may be challenging for a church to host. Church of the Ascension will be providing a Thanksgiving meal to our WARM guests on Thanksgiving Day, so the host church won’t be expected to provide dinner on Thanksgiving Day. WARM will make every effort to make the process as smooth as possible, and will reach out to our entire list of volunteers to help support the host church.

What does a church or other organization need to become a WARM host site?

1) A building with a heated space that has separate male and female bathrooms and an area to hold up to 15 cots.

2) A dedicated site leader to coordinate recruiting volunteers and to oversee operations for the week.

3) Volunteers to be monitors in the evenings and overnight, and to provide dinners and breakfasts for up to 17 people.

WARM will provide all necessary supplies, equipment, and training!

We would like to express our sincere thanks and gratitude to all who contributed to our mission over the 2025-2026 season. As our Vice Chair Steve Tuttle said "the advocacy and emergency shelter we provide . . . are paramount to helping individuals transition from the streets into sustainable housing."

We are deeply grateful to all of the participating churches and the many volunteers -- without your participation, this program would not be possible. The success of WARM is a result of the collaboration between many community partners as well as county and state governments.
