Was your first car your absolute dream car? Many of you will say/think "no" which brings me to my point - it's the same with your first house! You know how you get all of the use out of the first car and then upgrade later to the newer car with all of the features? That's similar to your first house! It's the stepping stone to building your equity and experience so that you later can have that dream house down the line because A) you have to start somewhere & B) renting is just giving your money away in MANY cases! Reminder : a 30 year mortgage does NOT mean you have to live somewhere for 30 years or until a/the mortgage is paid off! You are free to sell your home whenever you want & this is an example of how it works when you sell with a mortgage: Say you're selling your home with a mortgage for 225K but your complete payoff is only 150K, the title company sends the payoff to your mortgage of 150K and you keep the rest after fees! Also, just because you are any certain age does NOT mean you can not get a 30 year mortgage! One of my clients is 85 and got a new 30 year mortgage!
