Major safety improvement projects!
Major Safety Improvements Coming to the LA 445 & US 190 Intersection
One of the most requested roadway improvements in our area is moving forward at the intersection of LA 445 and US 190. This intersection serves as a major intersection in our community and has long been a concern for residents because of congestion and safety issues during peak travel times.
🚦My Top Priority: LA 445 Turn Lanes at US 190
The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development has included a project to construct dedicated turn lanes at the intersection of LA 445 and US 190.
This improvement will help separate turning traffic from through traffic, reduce backups, improve traffic flow, and enhance safety for the thousands of motorists who use this intersection every week.
🚧 LA 22 Turn Lane at Lee’s Landing
Another important safety improvement planned for our district is the addition of a dedicated turn lane on LA 22 at Lee’s Landing.
This stretch frequently backs up due to motorists slowing down to turn off the high-speed highway. Whether it’s neighbors heading home to local residential areas or motorists traveling toward the river and boat launch, a dedicated turn lane will prevent dangerous sudden stops, protect drivers from rear-end collisions, and keep daily traffic flowing safely.
🚧 Additional Infrastructure Improvements Across District 73
In addition to these intersection improvements, several other projects are planned throughout the district:
❗️South Tangipahoa Roads Pavement Rehabilitation – Phase 2
This project will rehabilitate and preserve sections of roadway in South Tangipahoa, improving ride quality and extending the life of important local routes.
❗️West Yellow Water Road Bridge Replacement
The bridge on West Yellow Water Road is scheduled for replacement to improve long-term reliability and ensure safe travel for residents, school buses, emergency vehicles, and local traffic.
❗️US 190 Enhanced Pavement Markings
New high-visibility pavement markings will be installed to improve driver visibility during nighttime and wet-weather conditions.
❗️MMA Pilot Striping Project
This pilot project will utilize a more durable pavement marking material designed to provide longer-lasting lane visibility and improve roadway safety.
Safe roads and reliable infrastructure remain among my top priorities. I will continue working with DOTD and local leaders to monitor these projects as they move through design, bidding, and construction.
I also want to thank Dr. Bill Wheat, State Senator District 37 for his partnership and collaboration in helping advance improvements that will benefit the people of our region. Working together, we can continue delivering meaningful investments that improve safety, mobility, and quality of life for our communities.
