I’m honored to share that I’ve been selected for the Jumpstart Indy 2026 Cohort, an intensive real estate development program designed to equip emerging developers with the knowledge and tools to transform ideas into impactful projects.

For more than a decade, I’ve had the privilege of helping buyers, sellers, investors, and community partners navigate the real estate process. Now, I’m taking the next step in my professional journey—learning how to help create the quality housing and community-focused developments our city needs.

This opportunity is especially meaningful because when my family relocated to Indianapolis in the late 1990s, Martindale-Brightwood was the first community we called home. If someone is going down the wrong road, he doesn't need motivation to speed him up. What he needs is education to turn him around.

Let me close this week with what might be Jim's most important lesson about learning.

We live in a culture obsessed with motivation. Get fired up. Get pumped. Get inspired. Attend the rally. Watch the video. Listen to the speech. And for a few hours or a few days, you feel like you can conquer the world.

But Jim asked a question that stopped people cold: "What if you're running in the wrong direction?"

Because motivation doesn't check your compass. Motivation doesn't care which way you're headed. It just makes you go faster. And if you're going the wrong way, faster is actually worse.

I've watched motivated people destroy their health chasing money. I've watched motivated people ruin relationships pursuing career goals that turned out to be empty. I've watched motivated people work harder and harder at strategies that were never going to work.

They didn't need more motivation. They needed more education. They needed someone — or some book, or some idea — to show them they were on the wrong road entirely.

That's what learning does. It doesn't just make you more effective at what you're doing. It makes you question whether what you're doing is worth being effective at.

This week we've explored why Jim Rohn was so passionate about books and learning. And it comes down to this: education changes your direction. Motivation only changes your speed.

Read the books. Study the ideas. Seek the mentors. Not just to go faster — but to make sure you're going somewhere worth arriving.

Don't let your learning lead to knowledge. Let your learning lead to action.

My friend, this might be the most important thing Jim ever said about learning. And it's the one most people miss.

We live in a world that worships knowledge. We celebrate how much someone knows. We admire the well-read person, the one who can quote statistics and reference studies and debate ideas with precision.

But Jim asked a harder question: "What are you doing with what you know?"

Because I've met people who have read every book on fitness and can't run a mile. I've met people who have studied every financial strategy and are still broke. I've met people who know more about relationships than most therapists and are alone.

Knowledge without action is the most dangerous kind of self-deception. It lets you feel like you're making progress when you're standing still. You close the book and think, "I've grown." But you haven't. Not yet. You've only gathered material.

Growth happens when you take what you've read and DO something with it.

Read a book about communication? Have the conversation you've been avoiding. Read a book about health? Go for the walk. Read about financial planning? Open the account. Read about leadership? Lead differently tomorrow morning.

Jim didn't read books to know things. He read books to become someone. And "becoming" requires action — messy, imperfect, uncomfortable action.

Here's what I want you to consider: what is one thing you already know — something you've read about, studied, thought about — that you haven't acted on yet?

Don't learn another thing until you've done something with what you already know.
