An airport can be more than a gateway to a city. It can be a gateway to opportunity for the people who call that city home.

That is the purpose behind our Airside work. This year, we advanced airport projects designed not only to meet growing aviation demand, but to strengthen the communities around them. At Wheeler Downtown Airport, the planned Apex Aero Center pairs new terminal, hangar, office, and maintenance space with an expansion of Red Tail Academy, designed to connect more Kansas City youth with careers across the aviation industry. Projects like this can help local businesses reach wider markets while supporting skilled employment and long-term economic mobility. We’re proud of the partnerships moving this vision forward and what they represent: airports that do more than connect destinations. They connect people to possibility.

This Independence Day feels especially meaningful as our nation begins celebrating America's 250th year.

250 years is more than a milestone. It's a reminder that America has never been finished. Our country's greatest strength has always been its people—generations of dreamers, builders, veterans, entrepreneurs, immigrants, workers, artists, and neighbors who have each helped shape what this nation can become.

Our history is complex. Our story is still being written. And every generation has the opportunity—and responsibility—to leave it better than they found it.

We believe strong communities are built by investing in people, expanding opportunity, supporting local entrepreneurs, preserving history, and creating pathways for everyone to thrive. We honor where we've been while helping build what comes next.

As we celebrate 250 years of the United States, we also celebrate the communities that continue to move our country forward every day. Progress doesn't happen all at once. It happens through partnership, persistence, and people who believe tomorrow can be better than today.

Building the future of aviation starts with strategic development.

At NAEDC 2026, Erik Murray, owner of Airside Innovations, and Kyle Eiserer joined industry leaders to discuss the airport development process from a private developer’s perspective. Their session highlighted two Kansas City case studies, including a non-aeronautical industrial development at Kansas City International Airport and an aeronautical hangar development at the Downtown Airport. Real-world projects, industry collaboration, and innovative infrastructure continue to shape the future of aviation development.
