Almost 4 years ago, we met at our very first real estate brokerage. We worked together for a few months before our careers took us in different directions. She moved on to another brokerage, I stayed put for a while, and life happened. We each focused on our own paths, built our experience, and chased our goals.

Lately I’ve been receiving a good bit of questions about rent to own homes and if they still exist!?
Some people don’t fully understand how they work.

Yes, rent-to-own homes do exist — but they are NOT as common or as easy as social media makes them seem. Some programs are legitimate, while others can leave buyers paying more money without ever actually owning the home.

A few things to know:
🏡 Most rent-to-own programs still require upfront money
🏡 Your monthly payment is usually higher than normal rent
🏡 Some contracts are very strict
🏡 Missing payments can sometimes cancel your option to buy
🏡 Not every “rent-to-own” ad is legit

For some people, it can be a stepping stone to homeownership. For others, it may make more sense to work on credit, savings, or down payment assistance programs first.

Before signing ANYTHING:
✔️ Read the contract carefully
✔️ Ask questions
✔️ Work with a licensed real estate professional
✔️ Make sure the company/property is legitimate

Don’t let desperation for homeownership put you in a bad situation. Knowledge is power 💛

Kiddo you made me a mother, but somehow also made me stronger, softer, more patient, more loving, and more determined all at the same time. 💛

There’s no manual for motherhood, and I know I don’t get everything right, but being your mom has been the greatest blessing of my life. Through every hard season, every laugh, every late-night talk, every hug, and every moment in between… you gave my life a kind of purpose and love I never knew existed.

Watching you grow into your own person is one of my favorite things in this world. No matter how big you get, you’ll always be my baby first. Thank you for making me “Mom.” 🫶🏽✨
