The Houston area keeps getting bigger.

Waller County was recently named the 2nd fastest-growing county in America and the fastest-growing county in Texas. Over the past five years, its population has surged by more than 13,000 residents as people continue to seek affordable housing, new developments, and access to Houston’s growing job market.

The question isn’t whether growth is coming. It’s whether the infrastructure can keep up.

When Hurricane Ike came ashore in 2008, it didn’t just damage Bolivar Peninsula... it nearly erased entire communities.

Entire neighborhoods were swept away. Thousands of homes were destroyed. Storm surge reached over 15 feet in places, turning houses into piles of debris and leaving only slabs where families once lived.

Galveston suffered catastrophic flooding, but Bolivar Peninsula took the full force of the storm. In some areas, there was virtually nothing left standing.

Today, it’s hard to imagine the devastation when driving the coast, but the scars of Ike forever changed the landscape of Galveston County.

Before Friendswood exploded with growth, Timber Creek Golf Club was already a local landmark. Fed up with Property Taxes?

Florida is taking a serious swing at property tax cuts.

This week, Florida lawmakers approved a proposal that would send a constitutional amendment to voters this November. If approved, the plan would increase the homestead exemption from $50,000 to $150,000 in 2027 and then to $250,000 in 2028, dramatically reducing property taxes for many homeowners. Some leaders, including Governor Ron DeSantis, have even described it as a path toward making many homesteaded properties nearly property tax-free. (The Wall Street Journal)

Supporters say it’s badly needed relief as home values, insurance costs, and property tax bills continue to climb. Critics argue that cities and counties rely on those tax dollars to fund police, fire departments, roads, and other local services, raising questions about how governments would replace the lost revenue. (Florida Phoenix)

If Florida voters approve the amendment, it could become one of the most significant property tax reforms in the state’s history.

Before Tuscan Lakes and Mar Bella, this part of League City looked completely different.

Whispering Lakes Ranch was developed in the early 2000s as one of League City’s premier luxury acreage communities, while Mar Bella helped transform the Highway 96 corridor into one of the fastest-growing areas in the Bay Area.

But before thousands of homes were built here, there was an airport.

Houston Gulf Airport (formerly Spaceland Airport) occupied roughly 365 acres along today’s Highway 96 corridor. The airport was once owned by Salem bin Laden, a Saudi businessman and the half-brother of Osama bin Laden.

The airport closed in 2002 as League City’s population exploded and the land became more valuable for residential development. Today, many residents drive through Tuscan Lakes every day without realizing planes once took off and landed where homes, parks, and streets now stand.

League City has changed fast. What was once an airport runway is now one of the city’s most recognizable neighborhoods.
