🌧️ LA Home Check-In: 3 Ways to Prep for the Rain

The "New Year, New Me" vibes are great, but in LA right now, it’s all about "New Year, Dry Home." With the heavy rain we’ve been seeing lately, here are the three most helpful things you can do this weekend to protect your space:

Clear Those Gutters (Seriously!) Fallen leaves from the recent wind and rain clog systems fast. If water overflows, it ends up in your foundation or behind your walls. Grab a ladder and make sure they’re clear so the next storm has a clear path.

Check Your "Splash Zones" Take a walk around your yard. If you see water pooling right against your house, that’s a red flag. A quick DIY fix is adding a downspout extension (those flexible plastic tubes) to carry water at least 5 feet away from your home.

The "Flashlight" Attic Test You don’t even need to get on the roof for this one. During the next rain, grab a flashlight and head into your attic or crawlspace. Look for damp spots or stains on the wood. Catching a tiny leak now is way cheaper than replacing a ceiling later.

There’s a lot to digest when it comes to understanding how mortgage rates shift and change over time, and we aren’t going to get into all of that today. But if there’s one thing to watch on where they’re likely headed, it’s the 10-year treasury yield.

Basically, the 10-year treasury yield is a widely watched benchmark for long-term interest rates. And as the yield goes up or down, mortgage rates tend to follow.

The good news is – the gap between the two is starting to narrow. And with experts saying the 10-year yield should come down going into next year, that means there’s room for mortgage rates to come down too.

I know this is a lot to keep track of. And that’s exactly why you should have an expert on your side. I’ll do the heavy lifting for you and will keep you posted as new data comes out and as rates fall further.
