Perry has been doing the small-town-center-of-everything thing for about 200 years. Incorporated in 1824 as Houston County’s first municipality, the city was originally laid out around a courthouse square, and that basic downtown layout is still recognizable today.

Two centuries later, Perry has grown well beyond that original square, with the Georgia National Fairgrounds & Agricenter, major community events, local businesses, and a downtown that still feels like the center of town. It’s a mix of old and new that gives Perry a pretty distinct sense of place, especially for the people who get to call it home.

Ocmulgee Mounds National Historical Park has been part of Macon’s story for a very long time. The site preserves more than 12,000 years of human history, including earthworks built by Indigenous peoples who lived, gathered, and built communities along the Ocmulgee River.

Today, it’s one of the most distinctive places in the area to explore, learn, and get a better sense of just how deep Middle Georgia’s roots really go. Not a bad thing to have practically in your backyard.
