Chapter Two of 120 Years of Architecture: The Cape Cod 🏡

Another home style with lots of character—and one that has definitely stood the test of time.

Born along the New England coastline, Cape Cods were designed to be simple, practical and efficient. They later became a staple of American neighborhoods, and it’s easy to see why.

Symmetrical exteriors. Steep rooflines. Central chimneys. Cozy spaces. There’s something about a Cape Cod that just feels like home.

One of the things I love about real estate is that every home has a story—and architecture gives us a glimpse into when, where and how that story began.

Coldwell Banker is celebrating 120 years by looking back at some of the home styles that have shaped the way we live, and I’m loving sharing the series.

Chapter One of 120 Years of Architecture: The Craftsman Bungalow 🏡

I love homes with character, and Craftsman homes have it in spades. And there are a lot in the area.

Wide front porches. Built-ins. Art glass. Fireplaces. Beautiful woodwork. All those little details you just don’t find in every house.

And maybe that’s why, more than a century later, people still fall in love with them.

One of the things I love about real estate is that every home has a story—and architecture gives us a glimpse into when, where and how that story began.

Coldwell Banker is celebrating 120 years by looking back at some of the home styles that have shaped the way we live, and I thought this series was too interesting not to share.

This is why I love what I do. ❤️

I worked with these two for over a year—not because finding a home usually takes that long, but because their path came with a few extra twists, changing circumstances, and some timing that had to fall into place.

So we spent a lot of time searching, talking, planning, adjusting, educating, and waiting for the right house—and the right time. And finally, it all came together.

One of the unexpected gifts of real estate is how well you get to know people along the way. You learn what matters to them, what they’re hoping for, what they’re worried about, and what “home” really means in this particular chapter of their lives.

So much of my business comes from referrals, which means I’m often introduced to someone as their Realtor…but somewhere along the way, many of my clients become friends, and some start to feel like family.

And sometimes, I’m lucky enough to become the Realtor for an entire family. I’ve helped his mom and other family members buy and sell homes over the years, and there’s something really special about being trusted again and again as life changes and new chapters begin.

I love being invited into some of the biggest moments of people’s lives—first homes, new relationships, marriages, babies, moves, fresh starts, transitions, and next chapters.

I get to advise and participate. Cheer them on, help when things get stressful, and celebrate when it all comes together.

I may help people buy and sell houses, but being trusted to be a small part of the major milestones in their lives is what makes it most meaningful to me. ❤️

I was saddened to hear about the passing of Dolly Parton yesterday. ❤️

Dolly was known for her incredible talent, her larger-than-life personality, and somehow, despite all of it, for staying grounded and never forgetting where she came from.

One of my favorite Dolly quotes is: “If you don't like the road you're walking, start paving another one.”

That's true in life—and it's often true in real estate.

Home isn't just about square footage, interest rates or curb appeal. It's where life happens. It's where memories are made, traditions begin, families grow and new chapters unfold.

Whether you're downsizing, moving closer to family, buying your first home, starting over, or finally making a change you've been thinking about for years, sometimes the hardest part is simply deciding you're ready for a different road.

You don't have to have everything figured out. You just have to take the first step.

Maybe that's one reason I love what I do. I get to help people through those transitions—not simply finding a house, but finding the place that feels right for the life they're building next.

Dolly understood the meaning of home. Despite all the fame and success, she and Carl built their longtime Tennessee home early in her career and made it their home for more than 5 decades.

From a little cabin in the Smoky Mountains to becoming one of the most recognizable women in the world, Dolly never seemed to forget that where you come from is part of who you are.
