When Marissa Fassano from Tamarind Print Institute shared the upcoming lithography release of Tiguex by Raven Chacon with me a year ago, I was captivated. A musical score of a 20 hour performance in and around Albuquerque in map form? My inner nerd jumped into action. Now part of Shifting Terrain at the Montclair Art Museum through May ‘28, I loved how the multifaceted past of the Albuquerque Valley took form under Raven’s ears and hands. Not unlike Montclair, where history and land weaves a multiverse of stories, Tiguex portrayed my second home in NM from bedrock to present days in so many innovative ways. Yes, that’s a cello floating down the river, yes that’s a trombonist in an air balloon, yes those are a group of low riders on a city street, a line of heavy metal guitarists on the tallest building. Thank you so much Marissa for helping to make this possible!
