Cool local history alert! Have you been to see the Victory Arch in Newport News?

Built to welcome returning World War I troops from Europe, the Victory Arch, located at 25th & West Avenue, was dedicated on April 13, 1919. Constructed of wood, bricks, and covered with stucco, the Arch was meant to be temporary. In 1961, the old Arch was demolished and the present Victory Arch was built. Below is a photo of the Arch and returning World War I troops in 1919.
