I've been noticing a lot more yards looking like this lately over green grass lawns, so I'm curious...what are your thoughts? Would you let something like Henbit, Clover, and Dandelions grow freely in your yard or are you Team Green?

Did you know that all batteries are now required by law to be recycled? Looks like Lowe's, Home Depot and Ace Hardware are all drop off points for recycling.

DID YOU KNOW?
Effective January 1, 2026, the Illinois Portable and Medium-Format Battery Stewardship Act (P.A. 103-1033) requires that all portable household, rechargeable, and medium-format batteries (4.4–25 lbs) be recycled rather than thrown in the trash INCLUDING single-use (alkaline) and rechargeable batteries (AA, AAA, C, D, 9V, button cell), plus batteries from devices like e-bikes, scooters, and power tools?

Where to Recycle: Residents must use designated drop-off sites, such as participating retailers and municipal locations. Locations can be found at The Battery Network: https://batterynetwork.org/locator/

Here we are again...did your assessed value go up this past year? Ours did, another 10% 😳

It's that time of year...Property tax assessments have been mailed and chances are if you live in St Clair County, you've already gotten yours and it's possible that your home value has increased!

So, what does that mean?!
Your Assessed Value is a value assigned to your home by the local government for property tax purposes. This is different from your Market Value, which is what your home could realistically sell for in today's market!

The assessed value of homes in IL (not inc Cook County) is 33 1/3% of fair market value, meaning that your home should be worth approximately 3xs the assessed value.

Things that factor into your value:
Property features, condition, size, location & comparisons of other properties in the area.

What if you think your home was wrongly assessed?
In St Clair County, you have 30 days to appeal by filing a petition with the Tax Appeal Board.

Happy February friends!!! Which item are you tackling first!?

Today we removed a large chunk of ice that developed under the outdoor furnace and water heater exhausts.

Why is this important? If allowed to stay, ice and snow can block the vents, causing carbon monoxide to build up inside the home, and as we all know, that can be deadly.
