Coach Kโ€™s presentation at the ICSC opening ceremony was a strong reminder that winning organizations are built through preparation, standards, trust, and accountability.

One of my favorite takeaways was:

โ€œThe will to prepare to win is more important than the will to win.โ€
- Bob Knight

That message translates directly to commercial real estate. Whether representing an owner, preparing a property for market, negotiating with tenants, or building a strong brokerage team, the work done before the opportunity arrives often determines the outcome.

A few leadership points that stood out:

Create standards, not rules.
Be solution-oriented.
Let the team know why.
Own it.
Be authentic.
Ask better questions.
Create an environment that is conducive to winning.
Keep getting better.

Great way to start ICSC and a valuable reminder that leadership is about preparation, people, and ex*****on.

Before I analyze cap rates, lease terms, or NOI, I start with one thing first: the market itself.

A great deal in the wrong market can become a long-term problem. But a strong market can create upside even when the deal isnโ€™t perfect on day one.
