9 natural tricks that keep bugs out of your home for good
Most people don't realize they're already sitting on half these solutions. Check your spice rack and under your kitchen sink before you spend a dime on bug spray.
A few of these will genuinely surprise you, especially the one about cucumbers.
1. Peppermint oil, mix a few drops with water in a spray bottle and hit your windowsills and door frames. Spiders genuinely hate it.
2. Cinnamon across doorways, ants navigate by scent trails, and cinnamon scrambles that signal completely. A thin line across a threshold stops them cold.
3. Vinegar wipes on counters, even after you've chased the ants away, invisible scent trails remain. A quick wipe with diluted white vinegar erases the map they were following.
4. Whole cloves on windowsills, set a small dish of them out and flies and moths give that window a wide berth.
5. Apple cider vinegar bowl. Cover a small bowl with plastic wrap, poke a few holes in it, and fruit flies walk right in and don't come back out.
The cucumber one is the one nobody expects.
6. Fresh basil near doors and windows, mosquitoes avoid it, and you get a nice kitchen herb out of the deal.
7. Cedar blocks in closets and drawers, moths hate the oils in cedar. Lightly sand the blocks every few months to refresh the scent.
8. Cucumber peels along baseboards, roaches and ants both avoid the compounds in fresh cucumber skin. Swap them out every couple of days.
9. Diatomaceous earth at entry points, sprinkle this fine powder where crawling insects get in. It's harmless to you and devastating to their exoskeletons.
Next time you spot a trail of ants marching across your counter, you'll know exactly which three things in your kitchen can stop them before you ever reach for a chemical.
