🏡 6 Healthy Habits for Homeowners in Southeast Wisconsin
Owning a home is exciting… but it also comes with a little responsibility. 😉 From Racine to Kenosha, Oak Creek to Burlington, here are a few habits that can make the homeownership journey a whole lot smoother. 👇🏼
6️⃣ Do things in the right order.
Thinking about buying a home? Start with a pre-approval before you start falling in love with houses. 😂
Know your budget, your must-haves, and your wants before you start booking showings. When you have the right game plan in place, you’re in a much better position to move quickly when the one hits the market, especially in a competitive Southeast Wisconsin market.
5️⃣ Keep an open mind. 🩷
I know… easier said than done.
Buying a home is emotional. You might walk into a house and immediately picture your Christmas tree in the corner and your coffee on the back patio. ☕️🎄
But sometimes the offer isn’t accepted. Sometimes the inspection uncovers something unexpected. Sometimes you realize the house wasn’t actually the right fit.
Don’t let one house become the house in your mind. Trust the process. There is more than one great home out there.
4️⃣ Listen to YOUR REALTOR®.
Your neighbor, your coworker, your cousin’s friend’s brother who bought a house three years ago… they may have opinions. 😂
But your REALTOR® knows your budget, your priorities, your timeline, and what you’ve been looking for.
Choose an agent you trust, and then let them help you navigate the process.
3️⃣ Keep up with home maintenance. 🔨
Wisconsin weather is coming to Wisconsin soon❄️🌧️☀️
Your roof, gutters, furnace, HVAC, plumbing, exterior, and everything in between need regular attention.
A little maintenance now can help prevent a much bigger (and much more expensive 😅) headache later.
2️⃣ Think before you renovate. 👩🏼💻💰
Before you spend $20,000 making a change, do a little homework.
Not every renovation adds the same amount of value to your home. Some projects can make a huge difference to resale appeal, while others are more about loving your home while you live there, and that’s okay too!
Make the updates that make sense for you, just know what you’re getting into first.
1️⃣ Don’t let comparison steal your joy. ❤️
Someone else’s house isn’t your house.
Someone else’s sale price isn’t your sale price.
Someone else’s kitchen isn’t your kitchen.
Your home is where the birthdays happen, the kids grow up, the dogs take over the couch, the holidays are celebrated, and the everyday memories are made.
So take care of it, enjoy it, be proud of it, and don’t let scrolling through everyone else’s highlight reel make you forget what you have. 🏡❤️
Southeast Wisconsin homeowners, what’s one homeownership habit you’ve learned the hard way? 😂👇🏼
