π¬β¨ Realtor Life Story β Chapter 13 β¨π‘
Itβs Tuesdayβ¦ and here comes Chapter 13 of my Realtor Life series.
π‘ Very common training all the Real Estate firms will give to the Real estate agents are How to talk to a client and what to say to Win a listing, how to preach for a sale, How to handle objections etc. etc. π¬
Basically its all around improving your talking skills π£οΈ
But what everyone misses and one extremely important is... π
π Listening skills..
The best thing I ever learned and I implement all the time in real estate and in my life... is how to listen... β€οΈ
A few years ago, I met a couple who wanted to sell their home. π
Like every listing appointment, I arrived prepared with market data, comparable sales, pricing strategies, marketing plans, and everything else I thought I needed. π
I wanted to keep the appointment structured and within a reasonable timeframe and I was more focused on making sure they can have all the information they need to list their home and we discussed everything. π€
But every time I tried to talk about the house, they would drift into stories.
Stories about their children growing up there. π¨βπ©βπ§
Stories about family gatherings. β€οΈ
Stories about the tree they planted when they first moved in. π³
Stories about neighbors who had become lifelong friends. π‘
I was thinking I will never be able to finish this appointment in a reasonable time frame. So initially I kept trying to steer the conversation back to real estate.
Then I realized... π
This wasn't about selling a house.
This was about saying goodbye to a chapter of their lives. π
So I stopped presenting, leaned back on the chair and started listening. Not because it would help me get the listing.
Because they needed someone to hear their story. β€οΈ
It went for more than two hours and I did not interrupt them with real estate any more at that point and they realized...
The wife looked at me and said,
"You know, you're the first Realtor who actually listened." πβ¨
Not the first Realtor they had met though.. :)
BUT... The first one who listened.. β€οΈ
We listed the home, sold it successfully, and helped them move on to the next chapter. π
But what stayed with me wasn't the sale.
It was that one sentence... and the self learning lesson of Listening.. π±
Because houses are made of bricks and mortar.... π§±
But a HOME its made out of memories.... π‘
It holds emotions... β€οΈ
And when people decide to move, they're not just moving out of a property...
They're moving out of memories.... π
Bitter and sweet and they need you to give them time to pack some with them and leave some behind... β¨
My real estate is based on the monument of trusting relationships with my clients. π€
Sometimes it's through solving impossible problems.....
Finding the perfect house. π
By giving them right advise
Sometime helping them above and beyond my real estate duties β€οΈ
But sometimes...
Its just by listening to them... π
I learned one thing that day...
I had created a deeper relationship and an unbreakable everlasting trust with my clients by just listening to them.. β€οΈ
In Real estate.. I learn every day.. π
and I am fortunate to make a positive impact on people's life. β¨
That's one of the many reasons I love what I do. β€οΈπ‘
