One time my client said he wanted “a good back yard”. Upon digging a bit to see what he meant by that, he said “I want to be able to stand on my back porch naked and have enough privacy and land that my neighbors can’t see”. Ok! That’s much easier to find.
I see this all the time with “good” kitchens, “good” schools, “fun” neighborhoods, and even bedrooms and garages.
Are you turning your garage into a gym? Do you cook or bake (these have different needs!). Do you just need storage and countertops? Do you entertain and get takeout for all your parties? Is one of the rooms going to be an office? How often do you host guests?
I have been trained to ask these deeper questions to help guide you in the best way possible. I’m a psychologist, a mirror and a detective all wrapped up in a very short, energetic package.
I have a sheet specifically dedicated to this in my buyer packet, and the most fun thing is that each member of the family turns it in to me confidentially. I love seeing where the overlaps are, what dealbreakers you all have and how I can be more creative in helping find the perfect home.
