October up here is the payoff.
The ridge turns while you are standing on it. Mornings start cold enough for a jacket and finish with the sleeves pushed up. The Highlands runs out along the brow with the valley falling away beside you, and The Keep sits just past it. The pro shop is a short cart ride from the door.
The Eyrie House holds a group without anyone feeling stacked on top of each other. Four bedrooms, four king beds, a dining table that seats everyone at once, and two grills off the kitchen — a Pit Boss and a Blaze. The kitchen is where people end up standing anyway. Outside there is a porch swing long enough to nap on, a patio sectional, swivel chairs at bar height, a television, co****le and ping pong. Three screened decks and two fireplaces for when it turns cold. Chattanooga is about half an hour down the mountain if anyone wants a night off.
Fall is the short season up here. The late-October weekends are the first to go, and once the color turns it is a three-week window.
The house can be booked on its own if golf is not the point. When it is, golf runs through McLemore's Stay & Play team. Start at https://eyriehouse.com or write us at [email protected] and we will point you to the right people.
