Commissions Decoupling....Selling a home-Buying a home. There is a seismic shift in how Real Estate Agents are being compensated between each other in the sale of residential real estate. A “decoupling” of the commissions between agents, no more sharing in the conventional way. For well over a hundred years the model between agents cooperating with each other has been sharing an agreed-upon amount to be paid by Seller to the Seller’s agent, which in turn would pay a Buyer’s agent upon closing the sale. It has been a method that worked well for Buyers as they did not have to bring in additional amounts of money to compensate their agent. Some have mentioned this event will bring more transparency into how agents are paid for both buyer and seller. For the most part, buyers haven’t given a “hoot” about paying compensation to their agent. Every once in a while, a buyer would ask “who is paying your fee”. Now it will be ‘front and center” in their decision in purchasing a home and its impact remains to be seen.
