In Southern Utah, common fence types include treated wood rail, pipe and cable, vinyl rail, and electric. Each has different visibility, maintenance needs, and safety characteristics.
A few things I always look at:
🚪 Gate placement — easy access for trailers and equipment matters a lot day-to-day
🔄 Multiple smaller paddocks — great for rotation, reducing overgrazing, and separating horses when needed
🛡️ Separate zones for arena, barn, and turnout — simplifies chores and improves safety

Stall barns give you more control and infrastructure — mats, ventilation, manure management. Run-in sheds are simpler and work great if your horses spend most of their time turned out.
Either way, ventilation and drainage are very important in Southern Utah's hot, dry climate. A clean, dry, well-ventilated space protects your horses' health and makes daily chores so much easier.
