The REALTOR® Party of California has issued an urgent Action Alert asking REALTORS® to oppose AB 736, a bill that could create a massive tax increase on homeownership.

At a time when housing affordability is already one of California’s greatest challenges, AB 736 could dramatically increase real estate transfer taxes and add significant costs for buyers, sellers, and property owners.

Based on the 2026 median California home price of $930,000, the current transfer tax limit is approximately $1,023. Under AB 736, that transfer tax limit could increase to approximately $27,907.

That is a dramatic increase that would make buying and selling a home even more expensive for Californians.

Please contact your legislators today and urge them to vote NO on AB 736
