A general home inspection is genuinely useful, but it doesn't automatically cover everything people assume it does. Radon testing, a sewer scope (checking the actual condition of the pipe running from the house to the street), mold testing, and termite/pest inspections are all typically separate add-ons, not standard parts of a general inspection.
None of that means the standard inspection isn't worth it, it absolutely is. It just means "the inspector didn't mention it" isn't the same as "it's not a concern," especially for older homes or ones with a crawlspace or older sewer line. If any of those are a real worry for a specific property, it's worth asking for them specifically rather than assuming they're automatically included.
