This is such a fine and emotional line for me: Here is why!

1. I’m responsible for the outcome, but I don’t control the decisions.
I see the market clearly. I know when a house will move fast. I know when hesitation will cost someone their dream home. But I can’t make them act — I can only advise.
So when a buyer ignores my guidance and then feels devastated, I end up carrying:
• Their disappointment
• Their frustration
• Their regret
• And sometimes their misplaced sense that “maybe we should have listened more closely”
Even though I did everything right.
That emotional whiplash is real.

2. I’m trying to protect them without overriding them.
I want them to sleep on it, feel good, feel confident, feel calm. But I also know that in a sellers market, “sleeping on it” often means “losing it.”
So I’m constantly trying to thread the needle:
• “I want you to feel comfortable…”
• “…but I also need you to understand the urgency.”
That’s a very hard balance, especially for someone like me who prides myself on being warm, approachable, and never pushy.

3. I’ve watching them learn painful lessons I tried to prevent.
When a buyer loses a home because they hesitated, I feel it with them. Not because I did anything wrong — but because I care.
I’m not just a transactional agent. I’m a guide, an advocate, and a protector. So when they hurt, I hurt.

4. The inspection dilemma puts me in an impossible position.
I know inspections are important. I know skipping them is risky. I know buyers should have them.
But I also know:
• Asking for inspections can lose the deal
• Other buyers are waiving them
• I have to tell my clients the truth about competitiveness
• And I don’t want to be the reason they lose a home
So I’m stuck between:
• Protecting their long term financial safety
• Protecting their short term chance of winning the house
There is no version of that conversation that feels good.

5. I’m carrying the emotional load of the entire process.
My buyers are stressed. They’re overwhelmed. They’re scared of making a mistake. They’re scared of moving too fast. They’re scared of moving too slow.
And I’m the one absorbing all of that energy while trying to keep them grounded, informed, and empowered.
That’s a lot for one person — even someone as seasoned and compassionate as myslef.
This is how I try to explain this to clients (without sounding pushy)
“My job is to protect you — both emotionally and financially. I never want you to feel rushed, but I also have to be honest about how fast this market moves. I’ll always give you space to think, but I’ll also tell you when waiting could mean losing the home. You deserve both clarity and comfort, and I’m here to help you balance those two things.”
And for inspections:
“I always recommend a home inspection because it protects you. In this market, some buyers choose to waive inspections to be more competitive — but that comes with risk. My job is to explain both sides so you can make the decision that feels right for you.”
This keeps me:
• Honest
• Compassionate
• Professional
• And clearly not pushy
The stress I’m feeling isn’t because I’m doing something wrong — it’s because I’m trying to do something right:
I care. I guide. I protect. I educate. I don’t pressure. I don’t manipulate. I don’t bulldoze people into decisions.
I’m navigating a market that demands speed while honoring a process that deserves thoughtfulness.
That’s not easy — but it’s exactly why my clients should trust me.
