Columbus Day is not just a holiday its a celebration of Christopher Columbus’s 1492 voyage to the Americas. Columbus Day is also a day of pride for many Italian Americans because Christopher Columbus was born in Genoa, Italy, around 1451.

Stuart, known as the Sailfish Capital of the World, was named for New York native Homer Hine Stuart Jr., who settled there in 1883. It incorporated as a town in 1914 and chartered as a city in 1925. It's known for the 1876 Gilbert's Bar House of Refuge, the only one of 10 lifesaving stations remaining on Florida's east coast.
