Sometimes when touring homes, you come across a time capsule that has been well-preserved. Those from the 1960s are some of my favorites!

From pastel appliances and Formica countertops to chrome-edged dinette sets, patterned linoleum floors, rotary wall phones, and Pyrex mixing bowls, these kitchens had a style all their own.

Some features feel dated now, but others are making a comeback in a big way. Mid-century charm, bold color, and vintage character can still make a home stand out.

🏚️ Before You Fall in Love With That Historic Home’s Original Wallpaper…
That gorgeous Victorian-era green wallpaper might be hiding a deadly secret. 💚☠️
In the 19th century, a vibrant pigment known as Scheele’s Green (and later Emerald Green) was wildly popular in home décor, but it was made using copper arsenite, a compound containing arsenic.
When the wallpaper got damp or moldy, it could release arsine gas; a toxic, potentially fatal v***r. Historians now believe this may have contributed to mysterious illnesses in Victorian households, and some even link it to Napoleon Bonaparte’s declining health during his damp exile on St. Helena.
What this means for buyers of historic homes:
✅ Always request a full environmental inspection
✅ Don’t assume “original features” are safe features
✅ Pre-1900s wallpaper deserves professional testing before removal
✅ Charm and character are wonderful, but not at the cost of your health
