Hurricane damage isn’t always visible from the ground.

After a storm, some of the costliest problems can hide where you can’t easily see them roof leaks, moisture behind walls, and water around the foundation.

A professional home inspection can help uncover hidden damage before small issues turn into major repairs.

Your first home is a big decision. Make it with clearer information. 🏡

Before you make an offer, look beyond the finishes and ask the right questions about the home’s major systems, repair history, and recommended inspections.

Save this checklist and share it with a first-time homebuyer.

33% of home buyers in 2019 were first-time buyers, according to the National Association of Realtors®. If you are a first time buyer and are not sure about the buying process, you’re not alone. Here are a few tips to help you start and navigate the home buying process.

1. Find a recommended Realtor® by asking friends and family or checking online reviews.
2. Set your budget: Include home purchase price, moving costs, and also funds for updates and renovations.
3. Think about the home you want in the future, not what you need now. Consider potential changing job locations, plans for kids, or other upcoming changes.
4. Make a list of your “must haves” and “nice-to-haves”. After you have looked at a few home options, reassess this list and share the updates with your Realtor®.
5. After an offer has been accepted, get a home inspection to learn more about the home.

Follow our New Home Ownership series this week for additional tips when purchasing your new home.

one third of all structures have damp conditions that can encourage mold growth, according to the Environmental Protection Agency. Mold can lead to structural damage, and cause health issues such as asthma and allergic reactions. Controlling moisture levels in your home can help reduce or eliminate mold growth. A few simple steps can help control the humidity to protect both you and your home. For example, you can reduce humidity -- and decrease mold growth -- by venting bathrooms and laundry rooms, and by using fans when cooking. Follow WIN Home Inspection’s Mold Series this week to learn more about mold, how to prevent it, and what to do if you have it.
