🔥 A FEW SIMPLE WAYS TO HELP PREVENT A HOME FIRE 🔥

October is a great time to take a few minutes to walk through your home and make sure you’re doing everything you can to keep your family safe.

🏠 A few simple reminders:

• Test your smoke alarms regularly and replace the batteries as needed. Make sure you have alarms on every level and outside sleeping areas.

• Never leave cooking unattended. Most home fires start in the kitchen, so keep anything that can burn away from the stovetop.

• Give your dryer some attention! Clean the lint trap after every load and periodically check the vent and exhaust duct for lint buildup.

• Be careful with candles. Keep them away from curtains, furniture, pets, and anything else that can catch fire—and never leave them burning when you leave the room.

• Don’t overload electrical outlets or power strips. Replace cords that are frayed, cracked, or damaged.

• Keep space heaters at least 3 feet away from anything that can burn and turn them off when you leave the room or go to bed.

• Have your fireplace and chimney inspected and cleaned regularly if you use a wood-burning fireplace.

• Make sure everyone in your household knows how to get out in an emergency. Have two ways out of every bedroom if possible and choose a meeting place outside.

• And don’t forget the fire extinguisher! Keep an appropriate extinguisher accessible in the kitchen and other areas where a fire could potentially start—and make sure everyone knows how to use it.

A few minutes of prevention today could make a HUGE difference tomorrow. ❤️
